Grizzly bears, Eagles, Black bears, Orcas & other whales, Deep fjords, temperate rainforest, outstanding salmon & halibut fishing from a comfortable floating lodge.

Bones Bay Lodge presents British Columbia's marine and native wildlife in their natural habitats. Nothing quite compares to the awe and wonder of watching ocean giants such as Humpback, Orcas, Pacific Gray, and Minke whales ply the waves, feeding and frolicking in crystal sea waters.

Your visit to the lodge will also include viewing and photographing Porpoises, White-Sided Dolphins, Seals, Sea Lions, Bald Eagles, and Pacific Great Blue Herons as you personally discover this breathtaking and diverse West Coast environment.

The Grizzly population around Knight Inlet crawls from their sleepy hibernation in early spring to feed on tender new plant growth. In late summer and fall, when the salmon are running, the Grizzlies can be found on the spawning streams where they gorge on the salmon, in preparation for winter hibernation. Take pleasure in the safety and comfort of our fully guided tours while you observe and photograph Grizzly Bear and Black Bear feeding and exploring in this pristine territory.

Day 1: Vancouver > Bones Bay Lodge Depart Vancouver South Terminal on Pacific Coastal Airlines scheduled service to Campbell River. At the airport you will be met by a Bones Bay representative and transferred to the floatplane base for your flight to the floating lodge. Upon arrival at the lodge, lunch will be served and then out on the boats for the afternoon wildlife viewing.

Days 2 & 3: Bones Bay Lodge This tailor made program is designed to suit your interests, so on Day 2 & 3, you are welcome to choose from the following experiences:

Glendale Cove for Grizzly Bear Viewing: Home to one of the largest concentrations of Grizzly Bears in British Columbia! Early Spring when the bears come out of hibernation they head to Glendale cove to feed on the succulent new spring growth in the tidal cove, during the summer months there still are several bears that remain in the cove. Peak season is late summer and into the fall when the salmon are spawning, at this time of the year there can be up to 50 Grizzly Bears in the area.

Knight Inlet Wildlife Viewing: Knight Inlet surrounding the lodge offers the most incredible coastline for viewing black bears. Cruise through the protected and calm waters surrounding Bones Bay and the Clio Channel near Minstrel Island. These resident bears come down to the shoreline at low tide to forage for such beach delicacies as rock crab, starfish and even a bit of kelp. You will also have grand opportunities on this tour to view bald eagles, harbour porpoises, seals, river otters, blue herons and other species of wildlife.

Whale Watching in Johnstone Straight: With easy access to the world's largest concentration of Orcas, Campbell River offers a unique and breathtaking whale watching experience. Listen to the magical symphony of the whales with our onboard hydrophone. Their delicate and soprano high-pitched squeals, squawks and screams will give you goose bumps. Travel along stunning shorelines and inlets in search of orcas and other wildlife such as black bears, pacific white-sided dolphins, porpoises, seals and eagles. The quality of sightings and variety of wildlife is unique to the island.

Visit to Trapper Rick's cabin: An opportunity to enjoy a unique wilderness experience with 'Trapper Rick" who lives alone in a very remote area of the forest on the Kakweiken River. Spend the day with Rock in the backwoods to see just how a trapper lives off the land.
